Sour Cream Spice Cake is a fantastically tasty cake using cake flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, shortening, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, vinegar, sour cream and nuts to make this delicious spice cake recipe.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar and sour cream to make 1 cup
  • 1/2 cup broken nuts

DIRECTIONS

  • Sift flour, salt, soda, and spices together.
  • Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and cream until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Add combined vinegar and sour cream alternately with dry ingredients and beat until smooth. Fold in nuts.
  • Turn into 2 greased 9-inch layer cake pans, 1 1/2 inches deep, or about 32 cup-cake pans.
  • Bake in moderate'oven (375°F.) 25 to 30 minutes for layers; 20 to 25 minutes for cupcakes. Makes 2 9-inch layers or 32 to 36 2 1/4-inch cupcakes.
