INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound 75/25 ground beef
  • 2 large hamburger buns, 5 to 6 inches in diameter
  • 2 leaves of Iceberg lettuce
  • 4 slices of tomato
  • 4 slices of onion
  • Butter or margarine
  • Granulated garlic (garlic powder)
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat griddle to 350°F. If a griddle is not available, heat a heavy bottomed skillet on medium-high heat. A griddle is best as it will allow for the drainage of grease. If a skillet is used, an effort should be made to remove excess grease while the patties are cooking.
  • Divide the ground beef into two equal portions, 8 ounces each. Form the meat into a ball. Place the meat ball on a flat surface and flatten the ball to make round patties about 1 inch thick.
  • Spread butter or margarine over the cut tops and bottoms of the hamburger buns. Sprinkle the butter liberally with granulated garlic. Place the meat patties on the hot griddle. Set a timer for two minutes. Cook the patties for two minutes and using a spatula, carefully flip the patties over. Using the heel of the spatula, press down on each patty flattening the patty to about 1/2 inch thick. Set the timer for two minutes.
  • Place the buns, buttered side down, onto the griddle. After two minutes, flip the patties. Set the timer for two minutes. After two minutes, flip the patties and cook for two more minutes. Check the buns to prevent them from burning. After two minutes (8 minutes total) the patties should be done - 170°F when check with a thermometer. When done, place on the bottom of the a bun, add lettuce, tomato, onion, etc., as desired along with condiments of choice. Enjoy!!
