INGREDIENTS

  • 4 or 5 slices of stale bread
  • 1/2 tsp. salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper, or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbl. olive oil
  • 1 Tbl. Parmesan cheese, grated

DIRECTIONS

  • Cut bread into 1/2 inch cubes and place into a large bowl. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Sprinkle cubes with salt and toss well. Sprinkle cubes with pepper and toss well. Sprinkle cubes with garlic powder and toss well.
  • Drizzle cubes with 1/2 of the olive oil and toss well. Drizzle with remaining oil and toss well. Sprinkle cubes with Parmesan cheese and toss well.
  • Spread cubes on a large cookie sheet avoiding crowding. Place on middle rack in oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Croutons will firm a little as they cool.
