INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 pound beef for stew (1- to 1 1/2-inch cubes)
  • 1/2 pound lamb for stew (1- to 1 1/2-inch cubes)
  • 1/2 pound pork for stew (1- to 1 1/2-inch cubes)
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 3 onions, peeled and chopped
  • 4 chopped green peppers (seedy centers discarded), cut in pieces
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seed, crushed
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 medium tomatoes, peeled and cut in pieces
  • 1 cup sour cream

DIRECTIONS

  • Brown meat on all sides in butter in a skillet. Add onion, green pepper, garlic, and paprika; stir. Cook 3 or 4 minutes.
  • Turn contents of skillet into an electric cooker. Sprinkle salt and cumin. Add water to skillet; heat and stir to loosen browned particles. Pour into cooker; stir.
  • Cover and cook on Low 8 to 10 hours. Add tomato and sour cream to stew; mix. Cover and cook on High 30 minutes.
  • Serve hot with fluffy hot rice and fresh vegetable salad.
