INGREDIENTS

  • 4 lb. lean, meaty spareribs
  • Salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • Few drops of hot sauce:
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup catsup
  • 1 cup water

DIRECTIONS

  • Cut spareribs into serving pieces. Brown ribs on both sides in a skillet. Season with 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and pepper. Remove from skillet and place in 4-quart roasting pan.
  • Combine pepper, chili powder, celery seed, 1 teaspoon salt, brown sugar, vinegar, hot sauce and Worcester shire sauce in saucepan; bring to a boil. Cook for several minutes or until blended.
  • Pour over browned ribs. Cover. Bake at 325°F. for 2 hours to 2 hours and 30 minutes or until tender, basting frequently. Remove cover.
  • Increase temperature to 350°F.; bake until ribs are brown. Remove to warm platter.
